8 pairs advance to next round

POLOY Atillo and Jessie Sayson of La Paloma Tennis Club (TC) survived a thrilling tie breaker to beat Jun Jun Jamito and Chito Carreon of the Integrated Provincial Health Office Tennis Club (IPHO TC) to lead the second day winners of the MLSDF 1st ML Kwarta Padala Cup Inter-Club Tennis Tournament.

Atillo and Sayson were leading 7-4, but Jamito and Carreon did not give up as they climbed from three sets down to even the score 7-all, at the Baseline Recreation Center Tennis Courts.

But their efforts fell short as the La Paloma TC duo were determined to make it into the next round, as they pocketed the tie-breaker set to advance.

Atillo and Sayson were joined by Dico Flores and Roy Incarnacion of Dumanjug TC, who eliminated Kenneth Fortech and Engbino Bino, 8-5; Teddy Sarabaia and Niño Heyrosa Aresgado of Mantads Tennis Club, who also survived a tie-breaker game over Siongo Young; and Cedric Ramonera, with an 8-7 thriller.

Monrad Dublois and Jun-Jun Laurente of Naga TC also moved into the next round, after beating Hubert Ortega and Lalan Solon of Mantads TC in another suspense tie-breaker game 8-7.

It was a walk in the park for the Baricuatro-Causin tandem of Barili TC, who scored an 8-0 love-set win over Fred Camanero and Mateo of IPHO TC.

Other pairs who made it to the next round are Medjok Paden and Lemuel Rubi of Lapu-Lapu TC who eliminated Lyle Cortez and Jun Gonsalez of MTC 8-4; E. Debuque and Yul Peralta of Villa Aurora TC, who booted Bomel Ares and Carding Gador, 8-5; and Cebu Commercial Tennis Club’s Boy Torres and Galgal Caña, who sent home Andot Potenciano and Titing Esmero of Tuburan TC following an 8-4 beating.

With at least 15 scheduled games being cancelled because of rain, tournament organizers are now doubling the scheduling to accommodate the number of entries. (RCM)
