Speak out: Old Fairmart and other establishments
By Henry L. Yu, MD

The burning of Plaza Fair in Colon St. has left a void in the hearts of not a few of us baby boomers.

Why? Because it was part of our young life.

Plaza Fair used to be Fairmart for 22 years (1978-2000).

It was one of Cebu's landmarks, one of the top department stores of our time back in the late '70s when we were students walking along the streets of downtown Cebu, when malls were still unheard of.

That place left so many beautiful memories of our young life, along with the equally popular Gaw Fashion Square, Ding How Dimsum House, Everett Shoe Store, Gaisano Colon, Rosita's Colon, UV, Gazini Plaza, BPI, President and Premier Theaters, etc.

Truly, people, places, things and events change but not the memories of our yesteryears.
