Speak out: Response of Alcantara police
By Mikie T. Pableo

I would like to commend PO3 Brendo Joel Beriarmente, SPO1 Pelayo Templado and PO1 Wilfredo Ando of the Alcantara Police Station for responding to a call for assistance, thus preventing loss of lives and property.

On May 26, 2006 at about 7 in the evening, Beriarmente, the station's investigator, received a phone call on the alleged entry of armed men in a residence in Upper Lawa-an, Alcantara.

The house happened to be our ancestral home; the one who called was our caretaker.

Without wasting any time Beriarmente, Templado and Ando proceded to Upper Lawa-an, which is on the elevated portion of the town proper.

They said that the first thing they noticed upon reaching the area was that the Cebeco lines were cut off. They later saw the two caretakers, Johnson Pableo and Nick Matilos, visibly shaken.

They narrated that somebody fired in their direction several times and barely missed them. They learned later that their pig was killed and the water tank destroyed.

Workers and neighbors who corroborated the statement of our caretakers were identified as Betty and Vicente Sendo, Letecia and Paciano Timtim, Juana and Engracio Matilos, Edelfonsa Pardo, Rufino and Manuela Templado, Edgar and Joy Matilos, Kissing and Ben Landiza and Sany and Bezilda Vilota.

The timely arrival of the three police officers prompted the suspect to flee. The suspect, a retired government employee, is now facing appropriate cases in court.

Kudos also to Police Chief Ranulfo G. Lastimoso for the immeasurable assistance he shared with the Pableos, and to the rest of the police officers of Alcantara, namely SPO2 Jesus Ascension, SPO4 Oscar Faunillan, SPO1 Rudy Sacnanas, SPO1 Artemio Cababat, PO3 Ludiveco Odever, PO3 Jovenal Dorig, PO2 Candido Sacnanas, PO3 Cecil Cultura, SPO3 Abec Cultura, PO2 Ma. Jared Llenos and PO3 Herbert Erojo Lamosao.
