CCSC to hold grassroots seminar
In a bid to enhance its programs, the Cebu City Sports Commission will hold a seminar on grassroots programs tomorrow at the Casino Español de Cebu.
Raul Manawatao of CCSC said director Michel Lhuiller, who took over from Jonathan Guardo earlier this year, invited Mark Joseph as the resource person for the seminar.
Joseph is the top honcho of the Philippine Amateur Swimming Association and is also the deputy secretary general of the Philippine Olympic Committee.
Manawatao said Lhuillier wants his directors to learn more about organizing sporting events in the grassroots level, as it is part of the mass-based development sports program of CCSC.
The seminar will tackle approaches the organizers can use when they put up events catered to the local community and also on developing talents of the local sports scene.
Manawatao said Lhuillier wants to include the athletic directors of the different schools and universities in similar seminars.
Godfathers
Earlier this year, CCSC had appointed “godfathers” in different priority sports. Among whom are Juan Uy for swimming, Ryan Rivera for gymnastics, Glen Soco for volleyball, and Ricky Dakay for football.
Councilor Jack Jakosalem, who also sits at CCSC, earlier said the appointing of godfathers for the different sports is their way of trying to dupli-cate the success of Ed Hayco of Team Cebu City-Dancesport.
“We want to spread what Ed Hayco has done to the other sport. The godfather doesn’t necessarily have to be a player of that sport. He should just have the passion and can devote his time for the sport,” said Jack Jakosalem of the Cebu City Sports Commission.
Both Jakosalem and Hayco are currently with the team in the US, where they bagged 20 gold medals in the 38th International Grand Ball Championships. (MCB)
