Cebu cos. now ready for ILM
Computing and imaging solutions company, Hewlett-Packard Philippines Corp. (HP), has seen an increase in the demand for the information lifecycle management (ILM) solution in Cebu and in the entire country, as more local companies deal with multinational companies (MNCs) as a result of globalization.
Marie Eulalie Cruz, HP product manager for network storage and solutions, said the company has already launched the ILM four years ago in the United States and other countries, but not yet in the Philippines.
Gaining
“We (HP) consciously did not market the ILM in the Philippines because we felt that the market is not ready yet. Now, the demand is already gaining momentum due to the requirement on corporate governance of some countries like the US on companies,” she said in an interview at the Cebu City Marriott Hotel last week.
HP business development manager for ILM Bart Davidoff said some countries require companies to have their business processes documented and keep electronic records, especially electronic mail, for future legal references.
He said local companies dealing with these MNCs also have to comply with the said requirement.
HP’s ILM solution helps companies use storage efficiently by reducing the cost of managing increasing amounts of data while transforming them into accessible business information, Davidoff said.
With the ILM, companies can transfer historic data, which are not used every day, to a lower-cost storage leaving the more needed once in the higher-cost servers.
“HP has the solution to migrate these inactive data, which are about 80 to 90 percent of the data stored in a server, to the cheaper server unclogging the more expensive server. But you are ensured that you can still access the information when needed,” he said. (JBN)
