Toral: Affordable ICT
By Janette Toral
Digital Filipino

What a lot of information and communication technology (ICT) companies don’t know yet is that SB Corp. also launched the SME-FIT program last March. The program offers loans that can be used by information technology (IT) to offer ICT products to small and medium enterprises (SMEs) that are mostly cost-conscious.

Products that include website development, e-commerce, purchase of laptops, and the others can now be offered in easy-to-pay terms to SMEs by ICT companies. Contact your nearest Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) office today and ask about SB Corp.’s SME-FIT.

Data Privacy Guidelines. Last Monday, the DTI published the Data Privacy Guidelines. All private sector entities involved in handling data should use this guideline to define proper practices in handling data in the organization.

Companies and individuals can also use this guideline in evaluating whether the entities they are dealing with have been violating their privacy.

Making Dreams Come True. For those who were able to achieve a thing or two in life, all will agree that help from friends, family, peers and even strangers, made these things possible. When I started DigitalFilipino.com, I had the opportunity to help individuals with their businesses or skill requirements. But as the site approached its seventh year and with the advances in technology, perhaps it is time to go to the next level in helping entrepreneurs and in fostering innovation.

EVOLUTION. Last week, I got the chance to visit two websites. They are Prosper.com and CambrianHouse.com. These two sites made me consider evolving my club to something that has both their traits. Prosper.com is a borrower-lending facility while CambrianHouse.com is an ideas generator and builder website. If I’ll be able to combine the two and not limit to technology projects, this may be able to spread wealth by providing those who have resources access to great projects and those with great ideas and technical skills to execute their plans.

I know and have heard of similar initiatives like this before but what I have is more on offering this infrastructure to my existing community and pool of contacts. Yesterday, I sat down with Cebu club members and got support for the idea. Although I’m sure that the tough part will be in the execution process and providing a certain guarantee of trust. I’ll be consulting more friends, business peers, meditate and pray for guidance to make this right.

The second volume of the Philippine Internet Review is now on its way as the gathering of historical facts is now taking place. If you have Internet history tidbits that you would like to share, I encourage you to visit http://philippineinternetreview.blogspot.com. Should you like to write about your town’s Internet history or story, it will be more than welcome as well.
