Scholarships for incoming HS studes out

The Philippine Science High School (PSHS) System is now accepting scholarship applications for school year 2007-2008.

The scholarship is open to graduating elementary pupils who belong to the upper 10 percent of the graduating class (based on the Grade 5 ranking) or have special aptitude in Science and Math as supported by report cards and letters of recommendation.

They must be Filipino citizens and without pending applications as immigrants in any foreign country, must not be more than 15 years old by June 1, 2007, in good health and have not previously taken the PSHS National Competitive Examination.

Requirements

All qualified applicants are required to submit two fully accomplished application forms with two recent 1x1 identification card pictures, two self-stamped long window envelopes and pay a processing fee of P75.

Interested applicants may secure application forms at their school’s principal’s office or at the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) 7 office in Banilad, Cebu City or the nearest provincial and technology centers in their locality.

The deadline for the submission of applications to the DOST 7 is on Aug. 25.

Applicants need to pass the PSHS National Competitive Exam, which is a two-step screening process.

Screening

The first screening is scheduled on Oct. 14 and will consist of verbal, non-verbal and a Mathematics test or Scholastic Aptitude Test.

Those who will pass the first screening will qualify to take the Science and Math Aptitude Test in the second screening.

Deserving

The PSHS system ann-ually offers scholarships to deserving students who are trained under the curriculum designed to prepare them for careers in science and technology.

PSHS has campuses in Diliman in Quezon City; Bayombong in Nueva Viscaya, Goa in Camarines Sur, Jaro in Iloilo City, Palo in Leyte, Tugbok in Davao City, Tubod in Lanao del Norte, San Ildefonso in Ilocos Sur and Argao in Cebu.

Successful examinees from Region 7 will be considered for enrollment at the PSHS campuses in Diliman, Jaro or Argao.
