Serna: Nex year’s calendar By Roger Serna: Sounds and images
At least two big concerts by two of the country’s biggest singing stars are coming our way. One is slated next month while the other one is scheduled early next year.
The megastar herself, Sharon Cuneta, will be holding a major show in Cebu on Sept. 9. That’s the advancer that Sony-BMG Music Entertainment Cebu exec Joe ‘Boy’ Yap told this columnist last weekend.
Details are to follow. Okay, Boy. We’ll be waiting with anticipation.

The second one but not the lesser among the two is no other than internationally acclaimed and acknowledged singer-actress Lea Salonga. She was in Cebu in December of last year.
This time, she’ll be an instrument of spreading love in the air as she serenades lovers on the day of love itself, Valentines Day 2007, that is.
Yes, that’s still around six months away but don’t forget the notion that the ‘ber’ months just slip away almost unnoticed and the next thing you’ll know is that we’re already entering into a new year.
A little patience goes a long, long way.
*** Lovi Poe, the teenage daughter of the late action king Fernando Poe Jr. has come to Cebu last Saturday to grace the final grand draw of the Shop for Scholarship promo of Gaisano Main and Country Mall.
She was with her mom, the former ramp and commercial model and one time actress, Rowena Moran. Even at 41, Rowena was still ravishing. We could just imagine how she looked during her prime that eventually captured the heart of the action king.
Anyway, Lovi (short for Lourdes Virginia) narrated to us how she missed her father. One incident which stood out in her memory, which highlighted her dad’s concern and thoughtfulness, was when she accidentally left behind a friend’s video camera at the Araneta Coliseum after watching a show.
Of course, she received some tongue-lashing but after that she also received money to buy a replacement of her friend’s lost camera and one for herself too.
She has only praises and superlatives for Da King’s widow, Susan Roces. Lovi narrated that it was only at the wake of her dad that she personally met Susan but since then she got close to her and even receives advices from her regarding her career and personal life.
Lovi is a contract artist of Sony-BMG Music Entertainment and had already released an album entitled The Best of My Heart which includes the now airlane favorite I Love You and I Never Knew Love.
Having an uncanny resemblance to the megastar’s eldest daughter, KC Concepcion, and even to Cebuana Vina Morales gives way to comparisons. She doesn’t mind being compared to these lovely ladies as she acknowledged them as being really beautiful and successful.
She plans to get to know more about entrepreneurship and be able to put up and manage a restaurant in the future. In the meantime, she’s still enjoying her singing and furthering her craft.
She also enjoys the attention being showered on her by interested guys including Cogie Domingo whom she considers as ‘just a friend.’ Okay.

From relative anonymity, in Manila that is, because somehow it has already started carving a name in the music scene in Cebu, the group Cueshé launched its debut album Half Empty, Half Full under Sony-BMG Music Entertainment which had turned platinum in a span of six months and produced such hits as Stay, Sorry, Ulan and Can’t Let You Go, among others.
The same album and hit songs also gave Cueshé some awards signaling the group’s recognition by music lovers as one of today’s hottest groups in the entertainment scene.
On Aug. 16, Cueshé (composed of Jay Justiniani on vocals, Ruben Caballero on guitar and vocals, Jovan Mabini on lead guitar, Jhunjie Dosdos on keyboards, Fritz Labrado on bass and the group’s songwriter, and Mike Manaloto on drums and also its other songwriter) will launch its sophomore album entitled Back To Me with the carrier single also of the same title now slowly invading the airwaves.
Keep posted as the group may squeeze into its hectic schedule a visit to its homeground not only to promote its second album but also to touch base with the place that saw its humble beginnings.

Just like its immediate past offering, the stage play Doubt, Little Boy Productions’ latest treat, I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change!, which was co-produced with Repertory Philippines, has attracted a horde of theater goers last weekend.
On the first night of the three-day engagement at SM City Cinema 2, a long queue of excited theater lovers was seen at the malls’ cinema lobby. As expected, the venue was filled to capacity and even had some viewers on monobloc chairs at the aisles.
It was an enjoyable presentation with the cast members giving justice to the various roles they had to portray in every segment. Amazing were the quick change of hairstyle (including wigs), costumes, sets and more importantly the switching to another character with awesome fluidity and depth by the cast.
No wonder that each segment was met by loud applause the loudest of which was in the final one. Indeed, the Cebu community has learned to appreciate theater…and how!
