Bautista gets new foe
Boholano boxing sensation Rey “Boom-Boom” Bautista will no longer fight Moises Guiterrez of Chile in the undercard of the Marco Antonio Barrera-Rocky Juarez fight on Sept. 16.
This after Gutierrez, a former Chilean bantamweight champion who holds a 15-3 win loss record with nine KOs, was denied in his application for a US visa.
Golden Boy Promotions matchmaker Sampson Lewkowicz relayed the message to Cebuano promoter of the ALA Boys Sammy Gello-ani yesterday.
His replacement is yet to be named.
“It is unfortunate that these things happen from time to time,” said Gello-ani. “But we trust Golden Boy can find another worthy opponent for Boom-Boom in time.”
Filipino boxing fans are clamoring for a worthy opponent for the undefeated Boholano prospect and are also drooling to see Bautista in a world title fight.
Bautista camp, however, is not the rushing things for the young Boholano phenom.
“Let us not forget that the Sept. 16 fight is only the fourth of Bautista in the US, and only his second in the heavier division. He has to get used to fighting in the 122-pound weight with the hope of ultimately getting his much awaited title shot next year,” said Gello-ani. (RCM with PR)
