CIDG raids 6 shops for selling fake cream

Operatives of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) 7 confiscated several fake whitening cream from four shops in a mall and from two shops at the downtown area in Cebu City.

The six simultaneous operations were done after Judge Ramon Daomilas of Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 11 issued the search warrants.

“Top-gel” pearl cream is exclusively distributed by CS Trading, but the company received reports that fake products are being circulated in the market.

CS Trading representatives Barry James Daitol and Ramir Cariego joined the operations.

They found that the fake products were sold at prices higher than the original ones.

They said the packaging of the fake products was almost the same as the original but it does not bear the manufacturer’s name, the distributor’s name and approval of the Bureau of Food and Drugs. These are the three things that buyers of Top-gel products must consider to make sure that they’re getting the original.

CIDG 7 Deputy Chief Jacob Macabali said they will file complaints for violation of the International Property Rights against the owners of the shops. No one was arrested yesterday, as the owners were not in the stores. (MBG)
