Panthers vs. Grey Wolves in Cesafi main event

The University of Southern Philippines Panthers will gun for win number two today, as they battle the Don Bosco College Grey Wolves in the senior division of the Cesafi basketball hostilities.

The Panthers, toting a 1-1 win-loss record, are expected to put a lot of hard-court pressure on the fledgling Grey Wolves who will come to the University of San Carlos (USC) Gym fresh from a defeat courtesy of the University of San Jose-Recoletos Jaguars.

The Panthers remain third in the standings and, if they manage to sink their fangs into the cub team, will go neck and neck with the Jaguars for the second spot, right behind powerhouse UV Green Lancers.

Cesafi rules provide that only the top two teams will automatically qualify for the semifinal round.

Whichever teams win third and fourth in the eliminations have to earn their slot in the semis by going into a special quarterfinal round.

There, the fifth and sixth placer will hold a final match and whoever wins goes against the third placer. The fourth placer, meanwhile, will battle it out with the team on the fifth spot.

Opening the afternoon courtside action at the USC Gym will be the UC Lady Webmasters going against Cebu Doctors University.

Later, in the high-school division, the USJ-R Baby Jaguars will go against the Cebu Institute of Technology Wildcats. After which, action will shift to the match between the UV Baby Lancers and USC Baby Warriors.

The main event will follow at 5:30 p.m. (JAF)
