BAP opens door to stakeholders
MANILA - –Despite its differences in the past, the Basketball Association of the Philippines has open a road of unity and reconciliation to other stakeholders.
BAP, headed by former Senator Joey Lina recently approved amendments to its Constitution and By-Laws leaving the doors open for the PBA, PBL, NCAA and UAAP to have a meaningful representation to the basketball body’s.
Lina in a letter to the four groups said their inclusion will enable them to also participate in the formulation of programs and projects that the BAP will undertake in the coming years.
“I hope the stakeholders will join us in this continuing quest to achieve unity and basketball excellence in our country,” said Lina. “We shall be sending you soon a copy of the BAP’s new amended Constitution,”
Sources in the BAP likewise said that it’s just a matter of days, when FIBA will lift the suspension on the Philippines from participating in any international tournaments.
The FIBA will hold its annual Congress on Aug. 27 in Sapporo, Japan, which will coincide with the staging of the 2006 World Basketball Championship.
Lina will lead the BAP delegation to the FIBA Congress along with chairman Michel Lhuillier and executive vice-president Christian Tan, and vice-president for the Visayas Raul Alcoseba. (FCC)
