The hunt for gold continues for the members of Dancesport Team Cebu City (DTCC) as it takes part in the Empire State Dancesport Championship in the US today.
The team collared 20 gold medals at the International Grand Ball Championship in San Francisco last month and is planning a deuce in today’s competition at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Manhattan.
Leading DTCC’s charge in the five-affair is real-life couple Jojie and Jonah del Rosario. They bagged six gold medals in San Francisco.
The pair of Loloi Rendon and DTCC directress Eleanor Hayco is also deemed a contender. They got five gold medals in the last tournament.
The del Rosarios will be competing in the International Waltz-Open Gold, International Tango-Open Gold, International Foxtrot-Open Gold, Amateur International Standard, Tango and Amateur International Standard-Open Championships.
Rendon and Hayco, meanwhile, will take part in 12 events.
Also seeing action will be Ricca Gatal Alix and Renante Saldua, who had three gold medals in San Francisco competition, as well as Lowell Bernados and Jeanen Bergado, who won one gold.
Edward Hayco, founder and co-director of the DTCC, hopes that the team will make good in New York.
“I am hoping and praying for the best,” Edward said.
After the Grand Ball competition, the team performed at the Dance Village in Los Angeles and in Las Vegas.
Completing the DTCC roster are Jimmy Noel and Karla Fornolles, Genice Marquez and Charlea Lagaras.
The Empire State Championship is an annual competition in New York. It gathers dance athletes worldwide. Edward Simon and his partner Safwat Gerges organize the tournament.
After Manhattan, DTCC will fly to Nevada for the Star Ball Dancesport Championship from August 17 to 20.
