Pess 7 holds training for coaches; Palaro includes Arnis in ’07 By Jade S. Violeta Sun.Star Staff Reporter
The Department of Education Physical Education on School Sports Division 7 will conduct a regional training for DepEd coaches today at the Cebu City Sports Center.
Pess-7 chief Vivian Giñete said the four-day training will serve as a response to the needs of the teacher coaches-trainers for officiating in multi-event meets, particularly the Palarong Pambansa.
The training will be conducted by 11 sports specialists and resource persons, who will be arriving today from Manila.
A registration fee of P1,000 per person will be charged to the participants to cover the cost of the handouts, certificates, snacks, lunch and honoraria of the resource persons.
Meanwhile, Giñete also said that during their first organizational meeting with the Palaro Board last July 27 in Manila, which was attended by the 17 regional directors, DepEd undersecretaries and Pess regional chiefs, it was decided that arnis will be added to the Palaro events in the 2007 staging of the school-based multi-event meet.
Arnis will now be one of the regular events of the Palaro alongside basketball, lawn tennis, athletics, swimming, badminton, baseball, chess, gymnastics, table tennis, taekwondo, volleyball, football, boxing, sipa, softball and sepak takraw.
During the meeting the three Mindanao bidders for the hosting job of the competitions in 2007 also presented their respective bids as well as their amenities and services.
Giñete, though, did not reveal the names of the bidders pending the result.
Giñete also said they will introduce new guidelines and format for conduct for the Palarong Pambansa to be introduced next year.
Bidders
The 58th Palarong Pambansa held at the Metro Naga Sports Complex in Barangay Pacol in Naga City in Bicol was marred by accusations of age-cheating despite the statements of Lawyer Cornelio Pacalla, chairman of the Palarong Pambansa screening committee, who said that they have interviewed all the 5,000 athletes a week prior to the start of the meet.
Among those put into the spotlight is Calabarzon Elementary baseball player Raniel Bariata Osmelia, whose eligibility was protested by Region-XII (Socsargen) through baseball coach Wenna Hepita.
