Viloria defends title today

After Manny Pacquiao toyed with Oscar Larios en route to a unanimous decision, a fellow Filipino takes on another Mexican in a bigger stage today.

World Boxing Council light flyweight champion Brian Viloria dangles his belt and unbeaten record against Omar Nino-Romero in their title bout at the Orleans Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.

Viloria, who is undefeated in 19 fights with 12 KOs, is confident of his conditioning, going into his fight against the Mexican, who is 23-2-1 with 10 KOs.

"I've had great sparring, great training. I've been sparring with the Russian Dimitri Kirilov at Wild Card gym. I feel great," Viloria told www.fightnews.com

Viloria will be looking to make it a triple for Romero, whose two losses to Gilberto Baas and Edgar Sosa came via knockout.

Make him work

"We're going to go in box, fight. Make him work hard. I'm not going to depend on a knockout. We're just going get some work in and get the job done," said the Pinoy who migrated to Hawaii.

If Viloria wins his fight, he could possibly line up a shot against World Boxing Association champion Koki Kameda in a unification bout.

Viloria, 19, won the title with a spectacular one-punch knockout of Eric Ortiz, who is also from Mexico, in the first round last year. He defended it for the first time against Jose Antonio Aguirre, winning via unanimous decision. (ML/ESL of Superbalita)
