DPWH bids out P25M contract to light up reclamation area

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) 7 has finished bidding out the purchase and installation of P25 million worth of decorative lights for the entire stretch of Ouano Ave. in the Mandaue reclamation area.

Cheryl Ouano, daughter-in-law and executive assistant of Mayor Thadeo Ouano, said that Gampik Construction, a Manila-based firm that won during last Monday’s bidding, will be installing 291 sets of decorative lights along the road, starting from the Mandaue City Hospital towards the boundary with Cebu City.

There is another allocation from DPWH amounting to P45 million for the streetlights of Ouano Ave., Plaridel St., C.D. Seno St. and W. Seno St. but the bidding has yet to be conducted.

The National Government has prioritized the lighting of these streets because they all lead to the Cebu International Convention Center (CICC).

From Ruiz

Rep. Nerissa Soon-Ruiz (6th district, Cebu) earlier released P1 million and P2 million, respectively, to the cities of Mandaue and Lapu-Lapu for their beautification projects in relation to the preparations for the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) summit on Dec. 11-14.

DPWH has also pledged P100 million for the rehabilitation of roads leading to the CICC.

The City Government is also beautifying the center island of the roads around the CICC.

Ambassador Marciano Paynor, who heads the Philippine national organizing committee (NOC) for the 12th Asean summit, refused to divulge how much is the country’s budget for this international gathering.

But he said it is “very, very much less” than what was spent by the other countries when they hosted the event before.

He said during a press briefing, immediately after the joint NOC-Cebu organizing committee meeting last Monday, that all the logistical preparations for the summit are on track, with each local government unit pitching in. (ROV)
