DTCC goes for one more sterling show in US
A more confident Dancesport Team Cebu City will be going all out as it competes on its last US tournament today in the 20th Nevada Star Ball Dancesport Championships at the Green Valley Ranch Resort in Las Vegas.
The team had exceeded all expectations, when, after two tournaments, first in San Francisco, and last week in New York, the lean four-couple team pulled out a startling performance and won a total of 44 gold medals in different dances.
"At the onset, we would have been contented with just making it to the final rounds of the respective events, but after an unexpected 44 golds, maybe we should ambitiously be more confident on our third and last competition," said DTCC director Edward Hayco.
Various shows
The Las Vegas stint will cap the US Road Show of DTCC. Apart from the competition, the group also took part in various shows around US.
Hayco said the secret behind their success is not only their rigorous training but the support they received that has boosted the team's morale to compete with foreigners.
"The team wouldn't have bagged those golds if not for the support of the city officials and the people of Cebu. Half of the chance in winning a competition is in knowing that your fellow Cebuanos are behind us, rooting us all the way," Hayco added.
For the first two tournaments, the team has been accompanied by Cebu City officials, headed by committee on sports head Councilor Sylvan "Jack" Jakosalem.
Tireless
For the Nevada stint, DTCC's assault will still be led by the tireless DTCC directress Eleanor Hayco, who is up to compete in 11 events opposite DTCC coach Crisaldo 'Loloi' Rendon. She will also strut it out in two other events with Genice Marquez as her partner.
Meanwhile, Ricca Gatal Alix and Renante Saldua, who have swept all of the events that they competed in, will vie in five events.
Jojie and Jonah del Rosario on the other hand, will compete in four events, while Jeanen Bergado and Lowell Bernados will try to steal the thunder in six events.
Marquez and Charlea Lagaras will compete in two events. (MCB)
