Bigby’s eyes new branches in Visayas

Bigby’s Café, the restaurant at Ayala Center Cebu whose walls are filled with travel memorabilia, has re-opened after a two-month renovation with “more interesting” interiors.

At the re-opening yesterday, owner Henrik Yu said the company is eyeing to open more branches in Cebu and Iloilo.

Yu did not elaborate on the future branches, except that these will be company-owned. “Only the branches in Bacolod and Davao are being franchised,” he said.

He said Bigby’s had to undergo renovations to provide a new look.

“It’s not an easy industry; for a restaurant to be always on the go, you need to reinvent,” he added.

Bigby’s has branches in Cagayan, Bacolod and Davao. Bigby’s target clientele are students, families and yuppies.

The new Bigby’s at Ayala Center Cebu houses Yu’s personal collection of masks, cowboy hats and key chains from his travels abroad.

“It’s now more interesting, more wholesome,” he said.

With its new set of menu priced between P120 and 180, the restaurant offers huge servings of Filipino, Italian, Chinese, Japanese and Mexican dishes.

The new restaurant also houses a function room that can accommodate up to 30 people.

At the re-opening, the restaurant offered guests five-minute calls to the United States, Australia, Europe and Canada for a minimum purchase of P500.

Yu said Bigby’s success in the highly competitive restaurant business is its “hardworking” staff.

“It’s a cycle. When you treat your employees well, they treat the customers well and, in effect, they will keep coming back to your restaurant,” he said.

“Good customer service,” according to Yu should not just be a case-to-case basis.

“Just because there is a huge occasion doesn’t mean that’s the only time to prepare. Every day you have to give the best service to your customers,” he said. (MMM)
