Bautista can't fight
By Rommel C. Manlosa
Sun.Star Staff Reporter

The injury forced the 20-year-old knockout sensation from Candijay-Bohol to pull out of the undercard of the Marco Antonio Barrera-Rocky Juarez rematch on Sept. 16 at the MGM Grand Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.

Bautista incurred the injury in his right collarbone during training at the Wildcard Gym, forcing his handlers to take him out of the card.

“It’s just an unfortunate time for Boom-Boom. We are very sad with the way things happened but with this kind of profession anything can happen anytime,” said promoter Sammy Gello-ani.

A photo release sent by Bautista’s camp to Sun.Star Cebu shows a huge swelling on the boxer’s collarbone, making it difficult for him to throw a punch—even in shadow boxing.

“The injury needs more than a month of rest after treatment and we have no choice but to pull him out of the card. The Golden Boy Promotions is also sad about it because it’s going to be a huge exposure for him. He will be coming home next week.

Sayang gyud kaayo,” added Gello-ani.

Bautista needed to rest from four to six weeks before he can resume training and it would not be enough for him to get in shape against his scheduled 10-round fight against tough Brazilian champion Giovanni Andrade.

Last July 2, Bautista was also pulled out of the Mano-A-Mano card that featured Manny Pacquiao against Oscar Larios, after he was stricken with flu.

Bautista last saw action against Roberto Bonilla of Nicaragua last May 20 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, where he demolished his opponent in three rounds.

Right now, Bautista’s camp is negotiating for a possible replacement of the Boholano slugger, which would probably come from the ALA Gym.
