ML Kwarta outlasts Braves for first win in MVBA pre-season
The ML Kwarta Padala team escaped the North Cotabato Braves, 79-74, to win the opening game of the MVBA Pre-Season Invitational Tournament at the Cebu Coliseum last night.
Jett Latonio carried the Jewelers through victory as the former USP Panther topscored for the struggling Jewelers with 17 points.
The Braves came up with a lot of surprises in the game with ex-pro Henry “Tata” Fernandez drilling in 11 of his 19 points in the third quarter to overcome a 15-point M. Lhuillier lead at the half.
Final period
Down 47-32 at the bend, Fernandez waxed hot for the Braves to cut down M. Lhuillier’s lead to 64-58 entering the final period.
The Braves continued to play an exceptional game and made it to within two, 71-69, with still with three minutes left to play.
They could no longer take their game to another level, though, as Fernandez sat out through the rest of the game after being held scoreless in the first six minutes of the final canto.
Contributions
Ardy Larong also made huge contributions for the Jewelers as the former USJ-R Jaguar finished with 11 points. Arnel Mañalac was the other double-digit scorer for North Cotabato.
In the second game, the Tele Tech Titans were leading the GenSan-MP Warriors, 52-45, at prewith 2,438.
Art Dacumos and Frank Tan knocked 257 pins to share the high individual scratch, while Jomar Jumapao downed 667 pins to get the high individual series award. (JAF)
