Young not worried by mayor’s move to ask Neda to reject water consortium

Metropolitan Cebu Water District (MCWD) vice chairman Joy Augustus Young is not bothered by Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña’s move of directly asking top executives of the National Economic and Development Authority (Neda) to reject the Ayala-Stateland water consortium.

In a telephone interview, he told Sun.Star Cebu that the mayor’s move will benefit water consumers in the long run as this will bring out various sides of Cebu’s water issue.

“If he does not believe in us (MCWD) and goes directly to Neda, then it is better because Neda could explain the project to him. The explanation may bring out some advantages (on the Ayala consortium) that we didn’t see or advantages that the Mayor has not seen,” Young said.

“I don’t see anything wrong with it. It is healthy and is good for everybody,” he said.

Osmeña has asked Neda Secretary Romulo Neri to reject the Carmen bulk water supply project, saying the way it was approved is unacceptable and ridiculous.

The Ayala-Stateland Consortium is proposing to sell water to MCWD at P25.55 per cubic meter, which Osmeña said is too expensive, considering that it will be piped to Liloan town.

In a report, MCWD general manager Armando Paredes Jr. said private bulk water suppliers such as Rio Verde, Ranhill Water and a Cebu consortium have expressed intention to challenge the water proposal of the Ayala-led consortium. JBhuman body, and ensures the quality of instruction,” Cabatingan said. (MMM)
