Speak out: Thieves inside sports center
By Janet Lee Go

(The letter is addressed to Ricky Ballesteros, general manager of the Cebu City Sports Center)

It is with regret that I inform you that the swimming pool area in the Cebu City Sports Center is now haven of cell phone thieves.

Last Aug. 20, 2006, my son Ray Leonard Go, a student of Cebu Doctors University, went to the pool to swim in preparation for the upcoming intramurals.

He swam at around 6 p.m. and left his bag at the judges’ stand at the pool’s far end where the metal locker is also located.

The area was once the site of the Thresher Swimming Club but is now a place where lifeguards and other persons with access to the pool spend their free time.

When my son finished swimming, he went for his cell phone inside his bag to call me. Unfortunately, the gadget was no longer inside his bag. His wallet and game boy, though, were still there.

Last May, a swimmer also lost her cell phone in the same place. I believe it was reported to the management without any result.

For your information, my son, when he was still in elementary and high school, represented Cebu City on many occasions, like the Palarong Pambansa, CVIRAA, Batang Pinoy, etc.

As a concerned citizen, it is my right to inform the public regarding the situation in the pool. Please keep the area safe and not make it a doghouse of those who have access there.
