Cebu Country Club takes 2nd spot in women’s golf

The Cebu Country Club came up with a record-breaking performance yesterday in the Women's Golf Association of the Philippines Luzvimin Golf Invitational tournament.

However, it still wasn't enough to seize the lead in the Diamond division, as the team fell two points shy of leaders Del Monte.

CCC, bannered by Stephanie Borromeo and junior golfers Hannah Wong and Stephanie Olea, scored 191 points to take second spot after the first day of the 54-hole tourney.

Yesterday's output was CCC's best total for one day in the tournament's history.

Borromeo led the charge with an impressive 49, while Olea and Mary Kim Hong, a jungolf alumnus of CCC, had 48 and 47 respectively. Wong also finished with 47 points yesterday.

On the other hand, Del Monte banked on the strong showing of Eva Miñoza and Lovelyn Guioguio to finish with an impressive 193.

Miñoza blitzed through the field with 54 points, while Guioguio scored 52 points. Marian Woo had a respectable 48 for Del Monte, while Nenita Guioguio scored 38 points.

Sta. Elena took the third spot with 189, while Wack-Wack is at fourth with 186. Wack-Wack's Stephanie Yu and Leana Farrales had 50 points each but teammates Katya de la Cruz and Elvira Liboro faltered with 44 and 42, respectively.

In the Ruby Division, the Alta Vista Golf and Country Club took the third spot after the first round.

Joy Siguan and Michelle Lee led the charge with 45 each, while Gina Yap and Rosita Uy had 29 and 25, respectively.

Jo Barredo took the charge for Villamor as she scored 49 to tow her team to the top with 151, while Pamplona took the second spot with 147.(ML)
