MLKP survives Teletech Titans, 74-71

Games today:
(Cebu Coliseum)
4:30 p.m. - Teletech vs. North Cotabato
6 p.m. - M. Lhuillier vs. GenSan-MP

Host team M. Lhuillier Kwarta Padala-Cebu held on to the crucial minutes of the game and beat TeleTech Titans, 74-71, and grab the first final seat in the MVBA Pre-Season Invitational Tournament at the Cebu Coliseum last night.

Meanwhile, the North Cotabato Braves logged its first win, rendering the GenSan-MP Warriors winless after two games, as it
romped the competition, 78-73, in the opening match yesterday.

The Jewelers lead 61-48 at the start of the final period and only made three field goals - all three pointers - and four free throw points. It was enough, though, to counter the hot game of TeleTech's Ronnie Bughao who scored 13 of TeleTech's 23 fourth-quarter points.

Bughao, a Cebuano, topped TeleTech's scoring with 16 points while his backcourt buddy Axel Doruelo banked five in the final stretch.

The Titans started off with an exceptional game in the first quarter.

But veterans Aldrin Ocañada and Stephen Padilla scored eight points each in the second quarter to give M. Lhuillier a 40-31 lead at the halftime.

The Cebuanos continued to run a fluid game on the third before they were slowed down by the 1-2-2 Titan defense in the fourth.

In the previous game, the Braves rebounded from their 79-74 loss to the Jewelers, Tuesday, taking out their aggression on the Warriors by mounting a fiery fourth quarter blitz that obliterated whatever hopes the Warriors had of advancing to the next round.

After a heated exchange of baskets in the opening quarter, the Warriors tried to launch a flurry through Apol Coronado but North Cotabato regrouped in the second half and pushed for a defensive play that went 56-60 at the start of the fourth. The Braves then upped the tempo to outscore the Warriors, 22-13, for the win.
