Noel gets Hapee coaching job, to scout Cesafi players for PBL
HAPEE-PCU has hired Jun Noel to coach the Dolphins as another Philippine Basketball League (PBL) season kicks off this October.
Noel, former Mama’s Love and Negros Slashers head coach, considers the job “a tough challenge” since he only has two months to scout for players.
And the coach has his eyes on talents from the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc.
“My number one priority is get some Cebuano players. I’m looking at Cesafi. I’ve been given a free hand to scout for players and I want at least 15 percent of the team to be Cebuanos,” he said.
Noel already has guard Jason Castro and center-forward Gabby Espinas, both from Manila.
Other than drawing from Cesafi, he also has other prospects. Some, however, are already bound to their team.
Scouting
“Right now, I’m still in the recruitment and scouting phase,” Noel said.
Hapee is second in the draft on Sept. 27, behind newcomer TeleTech Titans of head coach Jerry Codiñera, former PBA Purefoods center.
TeleTech, on the other hand, is playing in the ongoing Mindanao Visayas Basketball Association Invitational Games that opened at the Cebu Coliseum last Tuesday.
The last day of submissions of entries in the PBL will be on Sept. 25 and the Rookie Camp will be held on Sept. 26. The season formally opens on Oct. 28. (JAF)
