Monday, Aug. 28, a regular working day
No long weekend ahead for public and private employees: Monday, Aug. 28 is a regular working day.
Executive Secretary Eduardo Ermita said National Heroes Day, a holiday, will be commemorated on Aug. 27, Sunday, instead of on Aug. 29, the original date of the holiday.
Under the law, National Heroes Day is commemorated every last Sunday of August, so there is no need for Malacañang to declare Aug. 28 a non-working holiday.
Malacañang usually declares a long weekend by making Fridays or Mondays non-working holidays if the actual date of the holiday falls on Saturday or Sunday.
Traditionally, Fridays or Mondays were also declared non-working days if they were “sandwiched” or fell between the weekend and the holiday. (Sunnex)
