Dela Hoya consoles Bautista
Oscar de la Hoya’s reassurance eased Rey “Boom-Boom” Bautista’s anguish after he was pulled out of the Sept. 16 card due to a collarbone injury.
The 20-year old puncher from Candijay-Bohol was slated to fight Giovanni Andrade for 10 rounds under the titular rematch between Marco Antonio Barrera and Rocky Juarez at the MGM Grand Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas
De la Hoya, founder and president of the Golden Boy Promotions, assured Bautista and his trainer Edito Villamor that something good is going to happen once the Boholano fighter is back in good shape.
“Bautista is still young and he still has a long way to go. Golden Boy Promotions are lining up a couple of fights for him after he gets well,” Dela Hoya was quoted in a press release sent by the ALA Gym.
According to Villamor, those words were more than enough to cheer up the youthful boxing star, who was depressed following the cancellation of his fight.
Bautista and Villamor visited the GBP office in LA, and were personally met by De la Hoya and the other members of the management team.
Before Bautista visited the GBP office, the Boholano fighter went to visit an orthopedic specialist—Dr. Kee Wong of the Orthopedic Medical Group and Athletic Rehabilitation Center in California, where he was diagnosed to have a fracture of the right clavicle. The injury needs at least six weeks of rest to heal.
Dr. Wong put on a shoulder brace to ensure Bautista’s quick healing process.
Bautista and Villamor will leave Los Angeles on Saturday and will arrive Cebu at 7:30 a.m. on Monday. (RCM)
