SHS-Hijas de Jesus celebrates 50 years

Sacred Heart School-Hijas de Jesus, formerly Sacred Heart School for Girls, marked its 50 years of existence with a jubilee launch last Aug. 12, with the theme “Growing and going beyond.”

During the launch, the school highlighted the reason behind their acceptance of boys students since 2004.

“Because of the constant change especially with the augment of Internet, the school decided to give the same Christian education not only to the girls but also the boys,” said Nestor Chua, controller of Philippine Foundation.

The Parent Association maintained that the boys be given equal opportunity as the girls according to the need of a holistic integrated learning while the school maintains its academic excellence.

“We want to instill the right values to our children which we think is important in this era,” said Renato Echavez, Parents Association president.

Meanwhile Sr. Geny Suson, F.I., school directress, said that they will never stop in their pursuit to reinforce their Christian values and academic excellence through quality Christian education according to the spirit and charism of its Mother Foundress, Candida Ma. De Jesus.

“We believe that a co-ed school will enhance the development of the students in all aspects,” she said.

Minerva Roiles, high school assistant principal, added that they will continue to preserve the culture of excellence and values and be attentive to the needs of their students.

At the launch, the school also facilitated the signing of memorandum of agreement with Special Olympics Cebu and MacMayer Printers on its “Operation Share a Rubber Shoes atbp” project, which seeks to solicit donation of outgrown and used rubber shoes and sports equipment for the mentally challenged individuals in public SPED schools.
