Toledo cop warned for not escorting Gwen

The precinct commander of Barangay Don Andres Soriano (DAS), Toledo City has been given a “stern warning” for his failure to meet Cebu Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia’s convoy.

Toledo City Police Chief Leodegardo Acebedo reprimanded DAS precinct chief Fernando Yu. for his lapse.

As he has already acted on the matter, Acebedo is asking Cebu Provincial Police Office (CPPO) Director Vicente Loot to give him consideration.

Loot had asked Acebedo to explain his failure to follow “simple instructions” and why he should not be disciplined.

Acebedo, in his explanation letter sent to the CPPO, said Insp. Yu failed to provide Garcia’s convoy with a security escort and was made to appear before the Toledo City Police Station to explain.

“His explanation was unsatisfactory, hence, he was reprimanded and given stern warning by the undersigned,” Acebedo said.

Message received

Acebedo acknowledged receiving Loot’s text message in the morning of Aug. 17 directing him to provide convoy escort to the governor’s group.

Initially, he was informed that the Garcia would pass Barili through the Mantalongon barangay road, which leads to Aloguinsan and then Pinamungajan towns.

Garcia was scheduled to proceed to Balamban after Pinamungajan.

Ten minutes after the first text message, Acebedo said he received another one, this time informing him of the change of route. Garcia was now going to pass the Naga-Uling road which leads to DAS.

No engagement

Acebedo also clarified that the governor had no engagement in Toledo City as reflected in the memorandum sent to him.

He said he sent Insp. Alfonso Enriquez with three policemen on board their patrol car at the boundary of Pinamungajan and Toledo City while Yu was later informed to immediately proceed to the boundary of Naga and DAS.

Acebedo said that while the governor was in Pinamungajan, he was in close touch with the town police chief, Insp. Edgardo Torres, and was able to provide security for Garcia when she left Pinamungajan for Balamban, passing through Toledo City.

“(I) most humbly request consideration for the operational lapses and those proper corrective measures will be undertaken in the near future,” Acebedo said. (MEA)
