UC’s Allain Abellanosa leads Cesafi MVP race

The University of Cebu (UC) Webmasters’ top scoring machine, Allain Abellanosa, continued his consistent effort in the offensive side and he’s slowly reaping the rewards of his tenacity. The three-year Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc.

(Cesafi) veteran is currently leading the cast of characters in the 2006 Most Valuable Player race in the collegiate division.

The 5-foot-11 shooting guard, Abellanosa, who hogged the limelight last year after getting involved in an altercation on court, topped the candidates for the MVP honor, as he harvested a total of 123 statistical points (SPs) at the end of the elimination round.

Following Abellanosa are two of University of San Carlos (USC) Warriors’ top scorers, Enrico Llanto and Niño Ramirez.

Llanto has earned a total of 113 SPs while Ramirez lugs a total of 95 SPs.

Five-time defending champion University of the Visayas (UV) Green Lancers giant, Rino Berame, is running third with 94 SPs.

Fifth

Luther Justiniani of the University of San Jose Recoletos (USJ-R) Jaguars is at fifth with 88 SPs.

Also in contention for the plum are University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) Panthers Moncref Rogado, who is running sixth with 87 SPs, Don Bosco College Greywolf John Lester Sunga, seventh with 83 SPs; USP’s Randy Colonia, eighth with 79 SPs; UC’s Jonathan Canceran ninth with 75 SPs and UV’s Morsie Akad, DBC’s Richard Vargas and Cit Wildcats’ Jerry Lumongsod, who are tied from the 110th to the 12th place with identical 74 SPs.

Performance

Abellanosa’s lead, though, is still not safe as the performance of the candidates in the semifinals and in the finals will still be included.

Aside from this, there are also the votes of the media and the coaches.
