Gonzalez details Castro to BI office in Iloilo
Prosecution Mary Ann Castro will be transferred to Iloilo City, but it will not be a permanently assignment.
Amid the controversies hounding the Bureau of Immigration (BI) 7 office and Castro’s rift with immigration officials, Justice Secretary Raul Gonzalez ordered the transfer of Castro outside Central Visayas.
“In the interest of service and pursuant to provisions of existing laws, Castro is hereby detailed on partial basis at Bureau of Immigration, Iloilo City, to assist in the investigation of administrative cases only,” Department Order 639 of the Department of Justice read.
It was signed by Gonzalez.
The word “only” in the order was also highlighted after Gonzalez earlier warned Castro not to meddle in the affairs within the bureau.
Since the atmosphere in the BI 7 is no longer harmonious, Castro has since asked Gonzalez that she be sent back to her mother unit, the Cebu City Prosecutor’s Office.
Instead, Gonzalez issued Department Order 638 wherein Castro was ordered detailed at the immigration office at the Mactan airport in Lapu-Lapu City.
Department Order 639 was signed a day after the earlier order was opposed.
Casimiro Madarang, chief of the Mactan office, earlier said that most of his staff are against Castro’s transfer as she was said to be responsible for the smear campaign against the bureau.
This prompted Castro to fly to Manila last Friday and asked Gonzalez for another office to be detailed to.
“Why not Cagayan or Iloilo?” Castro quoted the secretary, who asked for her choice.
Castro said she preferred Iloilo since her father and Gonzalez are from there.
She will remain with the Cebu City Prosecutor’s Office but detailed at BI 6 in Iloilo.
“It’s also fitting since the oil spill happened in Guimaras, Iloilo...and like that oil spill, mulotang rako someday,” she said of the people who are against her.
She believes Gonzalez still has some trust in her because she was detailed to the BI.
Castro is expected to make her courtesy call on the BI 6 chief within the week or the next.
For most of the working days, she will report at the Cebu City Prosecutor’s Office and will only go to Iloilo when her services are needed. (JGA)
