Tribu Sugbo sets comeback to NBC
After missing out on the first conference, Tribu Sugbu will make its comeback in the second conference of the National Basketball Conference (NBC) on Sept. 16 in Cotabato City after its main backer Arthro/Skygo confirmed its participation.
Arthro team manager Jerry Guardo and Skygo’s Lito Gillamac formally signed the contract the other week at the City Sports Club with NBC secretary general Tito Palma for Tribu Sugbu’s return in the league after missing the opening conference last March.
Former PBA standout Al Solis, who was also present in the contract signing, is now in the process of solidifying Sugbu’s lineup, which is presently composed of Randy Sevilla, Gaylord Santos, Alex Cainglet, Vergel Abelong, Marvin Mercado, Kim Calo, Don Yabut, Miguelito Ducay, Doroteo Almacin, Mark Ababon, TJ Caparros, Jeross Ceniza, Fritz Gonzales, Enting Ramoneda, Tidol Reyes, Niño Sayud and Brian Lariosa
Team owner Jonathan Guardo said he has so much faith in the team after seeing them practice several times under the leadership of coach Al Solis. He said Tribu Sugbu’s inclusion in the NBC again will bring another dimension to the games.
“We are looking forward to a good start this second conference. I’m sure the team will be in its best condition before the season starts,” added Guardo, who used to maintain teams thru Osaka Iridology in commercial leagues’ including the Philippine Basketball League (PBL), the defunct Metropolitan Basketball Association (MBA) and the Cebu Basketball League (CBL).
Tribu Sugbu won the inaugural season of the NBC in 2004 but was dethroned last year by its South Conference neighbor Ozamiz.
“We hope to get the support again of the basketball loving Cebuanos especially when Tribu Sugbu plays here in the city,” said Guardo.
Aside from Tribu Sugbu, NBC will also feature 12 other regional teams’ including Cotabato, Pagadian, Tagaytay and Davao when its second conference opens next week in Cotabato. (PR)
