Toral: CoCo IP By Janette Toral Digital Filipino
Congratulations are in order to the Business Processing Association of the Philippines (BPAP) for its partnership agreement with Nasscom last month.
As Sen. Mar Roxas said then, the arrival of Nasscom and its serious step in partnering with BPAP is an important symbol, one that shows we are succeeding in our quest to make the country an outsourcing destination. It is important to note that we are attracting more serious partners to this cause.
Nasscom president Kiran Karnik, whom I first met in Nepal around three years ago, got the drift on the Filipinos’ fondness for acronyms, such as Cha-cha (for Charter change) and the like.
He came up with a few of his own, among them is “IP.” He said the next big thing for the country’s information technology sector is “IP” —for India-Philippines through NASSCOM’s “CoCo” partnership. “CoCo,” he said, stands for cooperation and collaboration.
The BPAP-Nasscom partnership intends to foster strategy collaboration, joint business promotion and policy lobbying with the goal of increasing the business opportunity exchange of both countries.
Pinoy Online Brand Marketers. I got the chance to catch up with Gerry Diwa lately. He is a Filipino search engine optimization expert specializing in the promotion of gaming and gambling portals.
Before returning to the country more than a year ago, he used to work overseas as developer of these applications.
At present, he is the chief executive officer of TrapikMedia (http://www. trapikmedia.com) that caters to the SEO promotion needs of gaming portals such as OddJack, HorsesWild, and PokerLessons.
Gerry is living proof of the Philippines’ popularity as a destination for outsourced Internet-based projects, such as search engine optimization (SEO), Web site design, and Web development. Recently, he just bagged a deal as the official SEO sponsor of the Casino Affiliate Convention 2006 on Sept. 14 to 16 at the Stardust Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.
Free Blogging Online Workshop. Last Saturday, I decided to convert the six articles I’ve written about blogging into lessons and launched my fourth online workshop. This time, I developed lessons for interested parties on how to blog, copyright concerns, earning from it, and exploring topic ideas.
If you are interested to start a blog, I’m sure this will be of interest to you. Just visit http://www.digitalfilipino.com to sign up. I truly believe that blogging can be a medium to help Filipinos promote their respective businesses and advocacies.
On the other hand, as our freedom of expression is often undermined, I hope blogging will be a medium to disseminate the truth and present perspectives on current issues. Advertising for P100 a day. Promoting three events —a free blogging workshop, a podcast, and two books— can be pretty time consuming. This week, I decided to outsource this need to promote by budgeting P100 a day for the next 30 days or spend like P3,000 in one month using Google AdWords (http://adwords.google.com).
AdWords allows you to post an advertisement to various websites online or by targeting keywords where your ad can appear through search engine results or articles that discuss similar topics. I chose website targeted advertising and picked http://www.sunstar.com.ph together with 19 other sites.
The results have been pretty impressive as website traffic has increased since the ad started appearing. After a month, I should be able to quantify the value of the said placement in my overall revenue targets for the month and share it with you.
