US power backup maker eyes growing SME, BPO sectors

An American firm that manufactures power backup systems is targeting small and medium enterprises (SMEs) as well as business process outsourcing companies to gain a bigger share of the market in Cebu.

Emerson Network Power launched in Cebu yesterday a whole line of products that are designed not only for large corporations but are also meant to answer the power protection needs of those in manufacturing, telecom, banking, SMEs and even individual personal computer users.

Emerson Network managing director Laurence Chan said the company is holding a series of product launches—Manila in May, Cebu yesterday and in Davao at the end of the week—to tap the SME and business process outsourcing sectors.

“The BPO and SME sectors are growing. We would like to get a piece of that market,” Chan said in an interview with the press yesterday.

He admitted that Emer-son Network has a “very limited participation” in the SME sector in the country, which is “growing very aggressively.”

He said Emerson—which has operations and distributorship in the United States, Asia and Australia—saw a 10 percent growth in sales in the Philippines.

He said he foresees “a lot of growth potential” for Emerson in the Philippines as more people are realizing the need to protect equipment, products and data from power supply interruptions.

He said the prices of Emerson Network Power products are “very competitive” but there are more value-added benefits in purchasing the systems.

Emerson Network recently clinched a partnership with the Aboitiz group’s 2Go courier service for the delivery of unit replacements.

Chan said customer care services, which Emerson has outsourced to Sykes, also provides 24-hour technical support to buyers.

He stressed that apart from these support services, Emerson Network is also confident about its technology, considering it has been “consistently named among the Forbes top 400 most admired companies in the world.”

Emerson Network products are distributed in the Philippines by Lamco International Trading Co., although Chan said the management team’s trip to Cebu and Davao are also meant to bring in more resellers.

Emerson Network’s customers include Globe Telecom, Smart Communications, Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co., Nokia, Siemens and Citibank. (LAP)
