11th Milo Olympics opens shop today

The 11th Milo Little Olympics-Visayas opens today at 1 p.m. at the Cebu City Sports Center with about 7,000 athletes coming from more than 200 schools around Visayas expected to attend.

The opening ceremony, which will be ushered in with a parade of all teams, will be highlighted by the cheer dance competition, as well as the selection of muses in the elementary and secondary divisions.

Chief organizer Ricky Ballesteros told Sun.Star Cebu yesterday that the winners in the cheerdance of both the elementary and secondary divisions will each receive P15,000 while the respective second and third placers will take home P10,000 and P5,000.

Ballesteros also added that a total of 50 candidates in both divisions will be vying for the Best Muse awards.

Among those expected to grace today’s ceremony are DepEd 7 Director Carolino Mordeno, Physical on School Sports (Pess) 7 Chief Vivian Giñete, Cebu City Councilor Joy Pesquera, Milo brand manager Michelle Calo-Albarillo, and Milo sports director Pat Goc-ong.

Milo Little Olympics 2005 Most Outstanding athlete Elona Dane Tormis, a three-time Batang Pinoy gold medallist, will light the Urn of Peace and Unity, while Sally Mae Siso, the most outstanding athlete for lawn tennis awardee, will lead the oath of sportsmanship. (JSV)
