Django keeps unbeaten run

Francisco "Django" Bustamante kept his impressive form as he stayed undefeated for the third straight round in the International Pool Tour's World 8-Ball Championships in Reno, Nevada yesterday.

Bustamante won all his four matches yesterday to move into the fourth round of the $3 million-rich tourney. Six other Pinoys advanced.

Rodolfo Luat and Ramil Gallego, however, bowed out of the competition, which awards $500,000 to the winner. Both won only one game and lost three.

Bustamante defeated 2004 World Pool champion Alex Pagulayan, 8-4, Furuta Kazou, 8-5, Jason Kirkwood, 8-5 and blasted Tony Chohan, 8-0.

Moving on

Pagulayan also moved on to Round 4 after defeating Chohan, 8-6 and Kazou, 8-3.

Bustamante's partner in the Philippines triumph in the World Cup of Pool, Efren Reyes, also moved on to the next round.

Reyes defeated Jayson Shaw, 8-2 and Johnny Archer, 8-5 and Yannick Beaufuls, 8-5, but lost to Daryl Peach, 5-8.

Other Filipinos who advanced are Dennis Orcullo, the third placer in last month's North American 8-Ball championships, 2005 Sun.Star Superbalita champion Ronato Alcano, Antonio Lining, and Jose "Amang" Parica.

In the next round, Orcollo will face Parica, Thomas Engert, Karl Boyes, Michael Schmidt and Beaufuls, while Reyes will face Rodney Morris, Charles Bryant, Ben Davies and Jason Miller.

Alcano will play Pagulayan, Larry Nevel, Mika Immonen, Fabio Petroni and Corey Deuel, while Bustamante will face Lining, Danny Harriman, Tony Drago, Marko Lohtander and Oliver Ortman. (ML)
