7 dancers wounded by men on motorcycle

After winning in a barangay dance contest, eight members of a dance troupe were strafed while they were practicing their number along V. Rama Ave., Barangay Calamba, Cebu City at dawn yesterday.

The dance group manager and her seven dancers were wounded in their legs, knees and buttocks.

Hurt were group manager Flordeliza Transmonte Seguros, 41, and dancers Kevin Corral Francisco, 16, Gonzales Solo Chan, 21, Russy Bagaan Toble, 21, Ronald Redela Lumapao, 19, Gaudioso Bissiao Mangay, 20, Lito Sagarina Calbonero, 19, and Felipe Borja Espinoza, 20.

They identified two men on a red motorcycle as their assailants.

As the group was having a dance rehearsal at the side of the road, the two men on the motorcycle approached.

Suddenly, the passenger pulled out a handgun and then fired.

Witness Manasis Degino, a security guard detailed at a bakeshop across the street, said the motorcycle proceeded to Guadalupe.

Barangay tanod Jose Regudo Jr. recovered eight spent shells and a deformed slug that reportedly came from a .45 pistol.

PO2 Dario Manatad of the Homicide Section said they were looking into the possibility that a rival dance group was not happy about their win.

Manatad said the group was named champions in the dance contest held the night before.

All eight members were brought to the Cebu City Medical Center for treatment.

Also yesterday, a man who was sleeping on the sidewalk of Sanciangko St. with his seven-year-old daughter was shot at dawn.

Andres Noel Flores, 35, and his daughter Christy did not see what was coming.

A cigarette vendor told police that he heard a single gunshot in the area at 3:30 a.m.

However, police were not notified until 6 a.m., when bystanders saw that he was wounded.

Manatad said that at first, it appeared that Flores was merely asleep. He had a single gunshot wound in the head. (MEA)
