Talk back: Bill Gates doesn't own Seagate
By Winnie Nieva
Perceptions, Inc.

On behalf of Microsoft Philippines, we would like to make clarifications regarding the news item, "Customs may seize tax-free goods for Naga project" (Sun.Star Cebu, page 2, Sept. 8, 2006).

The accompanying photo in the article states that, "Seagate is reportedly owned by Microsoft founder Bill Gates who visited Naga in 1996 accompanied by the Township's Lito Osmena."

Please note that Mr. Gates is not the owner of Seagate, nor is he in any way connected with the company. Mr. Gates also did not come to the country in 1996.

His first and only time to visit the Philippines was during a one-day trip to Manila in 1998.

(Reporter Elias O. Baquero obtained the information from officials of the Bureau of Customs and Mactan Economic Zone. Thank you for your clarification.)
