USP-F holds UV 2-2; USC-UC also ends in draw
DEFENDING champion University of the Visayas settled to a 2-2 draw with the University of Southern Philippines in its Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. debut last Sunday at the University of San Carlos-Technological Center.
Seven
UV, which lost seven key players, took the lead in the seventh minute on Junard Aguilar strike but John Kristoffer Casayan leveled the count in the 15th for a 1-1 score at the half.
Jomar Labastida got the lead for UV a minute into the second half before Christian Pacana scored an equalizer in the 59th. The two teams share a point and the third spot in the 2006 season.
Both teams are hoping to avoid being fourth as it means facing the top team in the semifinal round.
On the other hand, USC got the top spot after fighting four-time champion University of San Jose-Recoletos to a scoreless draw.
Both teams are already assured of a spot in the semifinals as only five teams joined this year.
One goal
USC and UC have four points on a win and a draw but USC has one goal more than their rival.
This Thursday, UV, which lost Josaphat Sacil, Ivan Dimco and Martin Bontia among others, will play the University of Cebu, while USP will play USC. (ML)
