Ecozone, IT investments in Cebu 6.8% less in 1st sem
The Philippine Economic Zone Authority (Peza) reported a total approved investments of about P2.53 billion in Cebu Province for the first six months of the year, 6.89 percent lower than that of the same period in 2005.
Peza-approved investments in Cebu in the first six months in 2005 reached P2.7 billion.
Total approved investments in the country increased in the first six months of this year, though, to P25.92 billion from P22.28 billion in 2005.
Among economic and information technology (IT) zones in Cebu, Asiatown IT Park got most of the first-semester 2006 investments. Approved investments this year jumped 379.26 percent to 231.6 million from P48.3 million in the same period in 2005.
The Department of Trade and Industry 7 earlier reported that the total number of employees at Asiatown IT Park in Cebu City grew to 2,384 this year from 1,424 in the same period in 2005.
Asiatown IT Park houses several contact centers and software development companies.
Fewer investments
But other ecozones, IT parks and buildings had fewer fresh investments in the first semester of this year.
Investments at Bigfoot for the first semester totaled only P83.3 million compared to P484.3 million in the same period in 2005.
The Mactan Economic Zone (MEZ) 1 only got P1.188 billion new investments for the period compared to P1.747 billion in the same period in 2005.
At MEZ 2 new investments reached P75 million this year, compared to P77.32 million in 2005.
New investments at Mitsumi Realty Inc. in Danao City only reached about P147.2 million against P282.27 million last year.
Investments in other economic zones for the first semester of this year are: Cebu Industrial Park with P5.02 million; JY Square with P194.9 million; Mango Square, P17.5 million; Oakridge IT Center in Mandaue City with P371.8 million; and Synergis IT Center with P213.55 million. (MMM)
