The University of Cebu has officially won this year's edition of the Milo Little Olympics, it’s 12th straight title.

It may be the 11th edition of the annual Milo Olympics but event organizer Ricky Ballesteros said UC’s title was actually their 12th.

Ballesteros included one UC title four years ago to their total title haul, to make it 12.

"That was the time when the Milo Little Olympics was merged with the Cebu City Olympics," he said.

This year’s event culminated last Sunday night, with UC finishing with 40 gold, 27 silver and 17 bronze medals. The medal haul surpassed that of their record tally last year of 40 golds, 23 silvers and 13 bronzes.

Stellar finish

The UC athletics team pulled a stellar finish with 27 gold medals, which greatly contributed to the school’s medal haul.

The university also swept all five gold medals at stake in table tennis of the secondary division and bagged five more in swimming.

UC also snatched a gold each in taekwondo, badminton doubles and chess.

University of Visayas settled for second place with 14-12-9 gold-silver-bronze medals, while the University of San Carlos-South (7-4-2), Cebu City Don Carlos Gothong (4-2-4) and USJR (3-9-15) finished for third, fourth and fifth places, in that order.

More medals

Cebu City Central School ruled the elementary division with 14 golds, six silvers and five bronzes, while defending champion Sacred Heart of School-Jesuit dropped to second place this year with seven golds, seven silvers and six bronzes.

Mandaue City Central School grabbed third place with six golds, three silvers and seven bronzes.

The University of Visayas-Main came fourth with 5-9-6 gold-silver-bronze medals, while San Nicolas Elementary School came in fifth with 5-7-5.

The Most Outstanding Athletes will be awarded on Sept. 27 at the Cebu Grand Convention Center.
