SMB plays Jewelers today
Cebuano basketball enthusiasts will have a rare treat today as their favorite Philippine Basketball Association players of the San Miguel Beermen invade the city for a charity game against the most dominant commercial team in the region, the M. Lhuillier Kwarta Padala-Cebu City Jewelers.
The Beermen-Jewelers match up, which will be held at the Cebu Coliseum at 5:30 p.m., is organized by Don-don Hontiveros of the Beermen.
Dubbed as the “Triple Treat,” the proceeds of the game will benefit the Don Bosco Boys Home and the Community Scouts.
Also listed as beneficiary of the game is the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc., the successor of the Cebu Amateur Athletic Association, the league where Hontiveros once strutted his basketball savvy under the CCC Aguilas (now UC Webmasters).
According to Hontiveros, the spectators will not only be treated to watching their PBA idols play live but will also have the chance to win sports items such as caps, jerseys and basketballs courtesy of event sponsor And 1, to be raffled off during the game.
“Aside from enjoying the game and winning gift items, this will also be a chance for the Cebuano to contribute useful things back to the community since proceeds of the event will be donated to charitable institutions,” said Hontiveros earlier. Also expected to accompany the Beermen is actress Assunta de Rossi.
“She’s (de Rossi) fixing her schedule so she could come with us, and hopefully she will help the cause,” said Hontiveros.
After the game, former Beerman Ramon Fernandez will treat the team to a party at Tisoy’s Grill in Mandaue. (JSV) |
