Serna: Trimedia feted
By Roger Serna
Sounds and images

The month of September is drawing to a close and, aside from the fact that we are getting closer to the anticipated yuletide season, the final selection of this year’s Miss World (happening at month’s end) is also being looked forward to.

So far, this title and Miss Earth are the remaining world titles that have proven elusive to the world-class Filipina beauty, and have thus challenged every candidate to these pageants to the fullest.

Again, we are pinning our hopes on Bohol-born and Cebu-based ramp model Anna Maris Igpit, praying that she will finally bring home the coveted crown.

As in the past couple of years or so, texters can play a significant role for Anna. By texting MW112 (she’s candidate no. 112, you know) to 2929 for both Globe and Smart subscribers, we’ll be boosting Anna Maris’ candidacy.

So for this objective and for other reasons, let’s not hesitate spending a few pesos worth of cellphone load to help a fellow countryman place the our country on the world map once again.

Speaking of Globe Telecom, the company, alongside Innove and JYGonzales and Partners, treated members of the Cebu trimedia to an evening of food, drinks, music, dance, fun and laughter last Monday at the City Sports Club Cebu grand ballroom.

Of course, a Globe event wouldn’t be complete without raffling off cellphone units (three Nokia units including the popular N70 and two Sony Ericsons). Sun.Star chief photographer Alex Badayos surely slept with a smile on his face that night having brought home one of the Sony Ericsson units.

Cebu-based band, Caliente, which regularly plays at Café Havana, provided live music for listening and dancing pleasure of all present. The group likewise provided accompaniment to the vocally-gifted colleagues in the media during the impromptu singing contest which was won by Marigold and Joberth Ocao of The Freeman. There were also three dance contests which gave the winners P1 thousand cash prize each.

Commentator Choy Torralba rendered a Visayan translation of the song My Way. Was it intentional on Choy’s part to go vernacular to avoid another shooting incident? Joke!

The song is very notorious for inciting violence in videoke bars and even in simple gatherings where singing is staple fare. Why remains a mystery not only to this columnist but also to most of people out there. Would you know?

Globe Telecom executives who graced the media get-together were Atty. Rudy Salalima, Jones Campos, Menchie Osial, Jerry Yntig, Alete Tabingo, Kristel Or, Gold Endriga and Jay Crisostomo. Ayala Corp.’s Emi de Lara and Ben Velasco were also there.

Oh, yes! Jerry rendered his now-famous version of The Way You Look Tonight which was met by thunderous applause of approval from the crowd. Perhaps it’s about time for Jerry to consider singing a part-time job and give some singers a run for their money. Yes, honest!

Here’s good news for the beauty, health and wellness conscious individuals out there who make these three things part of their lifestyles. The BHW Show 2006 unfolds starting today until Sun., Sept. 24, at the SM City Trade Hall.

In a casual talk, Body and Sole proprietor Johnie Lim divulged that during the show, his spa chain is going to launch another product line and service that is new in the market and will surely catch the fancy of BHW enthusiasts.

Clue: it has something to do with facial detoxification. Interested? Go to the Body and Sole booth at SM City Cebu or to any B&S branch.

Fresh from the success of the Hollywood made movie, High School Musical, another film which focuses on the fun and excitement as well as heartaches and disappointments of high school students will be shown. First Day High, inspired by the song of the same title, opens on Wed., Sept. 27.

Josie Pereyra of JSP Ads & Promo again handled the promotion of this movie from Star Cinema for the entire country (can you believe that?). The cast is headed by today’s hottest young stars, Pinoy Big Brother Teen Edition winner Kim Chiu and runner-up Gerald Anderson together with Geoff Eigenmann, Maja Salvador and Jason Abalos.

Needless to say, good looks are among the cast members’ common denominators. Geoff, Maja and Jason have already displayed their acting mettle and have even impressed discriminating critics, showing promise in this department.

Can Kim and Gerald approximate their co-stars’ thespic promise in the duo’s first major acting vehicle? There’s no other way for us to find out but to watch the movie. To quote Kris Aquino from her top rating show: ‘deal or no deal’?
