Out-of-shape Dindo TKOd in 2nd round

Former World Boxing Foundation (WBF) jr. welterweight champion Dindo Castañares didn’t last long in his Australian debut fight Wednesday evening.

The Cebuano boxer suffered a second round technical knockout defeat to Daniel Dawson at the Challenge Stadium in Perth, Australia.

Castañares, who fought under the light welterweight division, found it hard to hit the undefeated Dawson, who enjoyed a three-inch height advantage over the 5-foot-7 Cebuano.

The fight was stopped at the 46-second mark of the second round.

Dawson, a local of Perth, picked his 24th victory---his 16th knockout win.

The out-of-shape Castañares apparently lost his will to win after the first round when the the reigning WBO Asia-Pacific light middleweight champion dropped heavy punches on him.

Castañares was pulled out by his manager Dido Bohol in his earlier scheduled fight last Sept. 8 against Daniel Geale because of lack of preparation, together with another Cebuano fighter Bart Abapo.

Bohol wanted both fighters to prepare better and acclimatize in the cold Australian weather.

However, Bohol explained that fighting in the heavier division is only temporary, and once Castañares is back in shape, he will be campaigning back in his usual fighting weight-–-the jr. welterweight division. (RCM)
