Saturday, September 23, 2006 Overweight Amonsot stripped of WBO title
ALA Boy Czar Amonsot lost his World Boxing Organization (WBO) Asia-Pacific Super-Featherweight belt without throwing a single punch.
At 135-pounds—five pounds over the 130 limit—Amonsot has to find a good reason to give his best when he fights Indonesian challenger Simson Butar-Butar in the main event of tonight’s “Fight for Revenge” promotion at the Island City Mall in Tagbilaran City.
Amonsot failed to make the weight and automatically was stripped of the title he won over Indonesian Victor Mausul in November last year.
“It was unfortunate but we have to accept it. Amonsot failed to make the weight and he was stripped of the title,” said ALA Boys manager Antonio Lopez Aldeguer.
Aldeguer did not specify why Amonsot failed to make the weight, except to say that Amonsot had an attitude problem.
This is the first time an ALA boxer failed to make weight in a championship match. Aldeguer said they had long endured Amonsot’s attitude problem.
If Amonsot wins the 12-round battle, the title will be left vacant. If Butar-Butar wins, the title returns to Indonesia.
Butar-Butar weighed in at 128lbs and is seeking respect from the Tagbilaran City native Amonsot.
Meanwhile, AJ Banal tipped the scales at 116.5 pounds, while his Thai opponent Sing Carryboy tipped at exactly 116.
Banal will carry an 8-0-1 win-loss-draw record with 7 knockouts, while Carryboy parades an 11-0, 9KOs record.
Also featured fight tonight includes another rising welterweight fighter Mark Jason Melliguen vs. Indonesian Michael Tarsius for six round.
Other scheduled fights are between Joseph Omanz of Mandaue against Richard Cablay of Cagayan de Oro City.
Ricky Sismundo and Leon Maratas will fight against Frank Albia and Markyll Taroja respectively.
Arnel Tadena of Candijay, Bohol will trade leathers with Allan Dugang while Glen Masicampo will be fighting Melvin Ayudtud. (RCM)
