Cops on the lookout for vandals

Aside from watching out for criminal elements, the local police will also be on the lookout for citizens who hamper beautification efforts for the 12th Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) summit.

The Cebu Provincial Police Office has requested the Lapu-Lapu City Police Station to submit a list of ordinances pertaining to cleanliness.

The CPPO Operations Branch has asked for copies of ordinances on anti-vandalism, anti-littering, those against urinating in public and other related ordinances.

They are also directing the city policemen to strictly enforce these ordinances in coordination with their local government unit.

This was after the national organizing committee of the 12th Asean summit has called on concerned government agencies and the private sector to intensify beautification projects in preparation for the event.

Ambassador Marciano Paynor, who heads the national organizing committee, also urged Cebuanos Friday to be hospitable.

He said it was each citizen’s responsibility to make sure nothing untoward happens to the heads of state and to delegates of the summit.

The higher officers are also keeping a closer eye on the field trainees who are in Cebu to augment the security forces for the summit.

The Police Regional Office (PRO) 7 is asking all police units with police officers from other regions undergoing their field training program (FTP) to submit a complete list of trainees.

They are requiring the police offices to include the location of their beat patrol assignments, the time of duty and their cellular phone numbers.

This came after PRO 7 Director Silverio Alarcio Jr. noted the lack of supervision and orientation of field trainees.

Members of the regional command group have been tasked to inspect the performance of the trainees to see if their supervisors have briefed them properly on what their duties are. (MEA)
