Sunday, September 24, 2006 Cebuanos haul 10 golds in Iligan City swim meet
Six-year-old Karen Mae Indaya jumpstarted the Cebuanos’ campaign 15th Iligan Aqua Swimming Association National Age Group Championship with five gold medals in the opening day yesterday in Iligan City.
Indaya, a member of coach Rolando Alvarez’ Cebu City Blue Marlins Swimming Club, bagged five of the Cebuano’s ten gold medal rush in the first day of competitions.
Indaya dominated in the 25 meter freestyle, 25m backstroke, 25 m breast stroke, 25m butterfly and 50m freestyle in the six-year- old and under division.
Living up
Andrew Dequiña on the other hand, lived up to his lofty billing as he won four golds, winning in the 400m individual medley, 200m backstroke, 200m backstroke and 400m freestyle of the Men’s open division.
Dequiña of University of Cebu, is a gold medalist in the National Private Schools Athletic Association, where he won in the 50m breast stroke and 4x50 medley.
More medals
Anthony Linn Navarro added his drop in the bucket with one gold and four silvers.
He topped the 50m freestyle, and second place finishes in the 100m individual medley, 25m butterfly, 25m freestyle, 25m backstroke and 25 breast stroke of the 7-8 years old bracket.
The other medalists yesterday were Men’s class - Noel Cañeda Silver in 400m freestyle; Antonio Yana Jr.bronze in 200m backstroke. Girls’ 7-8 - Lyh Ann Navarro bronze in 25 butterfly. Women’s -Paula Abigail Vega bronze 400m individual medley. (MCB)
