Cuizon lifts Hiroshi to P6 title

Kurt Cuizon showed up with his golden boot to power the young Hiroshi FC to the Players 6 title in yesterday’s Aboitiz National Football Festival at the Cebu City Sports Center.

The little Cuizon showed he is just as adept in scoring as Junard Aguilar, the Hiroshi senior’s scoring machine, as he banged in four goals in their 5-2 rout of San Roque Football Club in the final.

MVP

For his effort, Cuizon, whose team went undefeated in the eliminations, was named the Most Valuable Player in the division, which attracted six teams.

On the other hand, Paref-Springdale came up with a team effort to take the P8 Division over Don Bosco College, 3-0.

Springdale, which had a perfect run in the elimination round, leaned on Terence Colminares, Sabin Veloso and Enzo Ceniza in the final for their one-sided win.

Meanwhile, the Boys 17 division churned out a few surprises yesterday, both good and bad.

The division saw the early exit of powerhouses Cebu International School, which once strung up four straight titles in the age-group last year, and Paref-Springdale.

On the other hand, the division was also marred by a near brawl, just as the University of San Carlos-Technological Center and the visiting Don Bosco-Victorias were waiting for their game.

According to witnesses the problem started during the Victorias’ semifinal game against Sacred Heart School-Jesuit, which took the third spot.

Grandstand

After the semifinal match, Victorias went to its place in the grandstand to wait for the finals, where they were reportedly followed by a few SHS-J players.

However, the presence of guards prevented a fight.

During the finals, the organizers also asked the police and a few security guards to escort the team and man the field, while a few Bosconians also escorted the team.

Results of the USC-DB game was unavailable at of press time, as is the result of the Boys 12, Girls 12 and 17 divisions. (ML)
