P163M lights for CICC roads

THE reclamation area in Mandaue City will soon be flooded with lights, as some P163.65 million worth of streetlights and decorative lamps will be installed along major roads leading to the Cebu International Convention Center (CICC).

The amount, to be taken from the Department of Public Works and Highways, covers all the lights for Ouano Ave., United Nations Ave., J. Briones St., Plaridel St. and W.O. Seno St.

The lights for Ouano Ave. within the vicinity of the CICC are currently being worked on, after a supplier was identified through a bidding.

The streetlights in the area will be worth some P45 million, while the decorative lamps will be worth P25 million.

According to Cheryl Ouano of the City Mayor’s Office, the lights will be installed by the first week of November.

Authority

In a related development, the Mandaue City Council recently granted authority to Mayor Thadeo Ouano to sign a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with a civic club and a private company, for the supply of fertilizers for the City’s beautification program.

The beautification program is part of preparations for the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) summit this December, which will be held in the CICC.

The Rotary Club of Cebu-San Nicolas and Innovative Agro and Consumer Products Corp. will supply 10 cartons of fertilizer at no cost to the City.

The MOU states that the donation will be used for the beautification program and for the City’s “other agricultural uses for the enjoyment and benefit of the Mandauehanons.”

It further states that the Rotary Club and the company will provide technical assistance and training to the City on the application, procedure, handling and proper use of the donated items. (AAG)
