VIDEO RINGTONES. Mobile phone giant Nokia the other week unveiled a new 3G phone, the Nokia 6288. The phone, according to a company statement, takes “full advantage of the benefits of 3G technology.”
The phone has “real-time video sharing” and video ring tones, which are ring tones that have accompanying video clips. The phone is expected to start shipping late this year.
The phone comes with a two-megapixel camera, with dedicated buttons including for zoom. Its display is capable of 262,144 colors with a screen size of 320 by 240 pixels.
The Nokia press statement did not say whether the phone can play media Files, like MP3, MP4 or any other multimedia format, but surely this phone can play these files. No self-respecting phone manufacturer would dare putting out a 3G phone without what is now standard multimedia functions, like a digital music player or FM radio.
One thing worth noting, though, is that Nokia still uses a numerical name for the model. A few weeks back, the company announced it will stop using numerical names after the success of Motorola’s branding of the Razr.
SONY ERICSSON UPDATE. The Sony Ericsson Update Service, the system that upgrades the firmware of its phones, has released a new firmware for the K750i.
I’m still researching on the changes that come with the new firmware and so far, it doesn’t appear to have anything to rave about. For one, the camera version appears to stay the same.
As is my wont whenever a new firmware is available, I went through the Esato.com discussion boards. The indication I get is that the new firmware is just a bug fix.
It’s hard to expect substantial improvements for the K750i via a firmware upgrade at this time as Sony Ericsson’s interest is for people to upgrade their phones to its newer models. I’m disinclined toward upgrading my phone to the new firmware. The features of the new firmware, it seems to me right now, isn’t worth the effort to upgrade it.
If your Sony Ericsson phone, however, still uses an old firmware (anything before R1BCOO2), by all means upgrade to the new one. The latest firmware incorporates bug fixes and improvements of previous ones.
